Thierry was 6 years old when we visited in March 2009. He
was born and living in the country of Ivory Coast, but his mother died about 6
months ago in an accident involving a tree falling; and his father died 2 years
ago of an unknown illness. Since then, he was brought to Burkina to be raised
by his grandparents.
Thierry lives in the village of Nabengya. His grandparents have 2 of their own children,
ages 9 and 13. The five of them live together in a courtyard.Their home is in poor condition. They have no
electricity and they draw their water from a nearby well.
Thierry was in pre-school in Ivory Coast, but his
grandparents are not able to send him or their own 2 children to school.
The grandparents cultivate millet with their 2 children.
They don’t have any other source of income and no other family members help
them out. They have no animals. At the time of our visit, all were in good health.
