Jean was 9 years old when we visited in January 2009. His
mother died 9 years ago and his father left for the country of Ivory Coast.
Jean’s grandmother, a widower, takes care of him and his younger
sister, Isabel.
Jean goes to school in the village of Kibou,
where the family lives. They live in a courtyard with 1 other woman, man and a
few children. Their mud-brick house is in ok condition. There is no electricity
and they get their water from a tap nearby.
Grandma cultivates millet with 3 other people. They
own 3 pigs and a chicken. No other members of the family are helping with
support.
Construction of the next 2 classrooms has begun! The deadline for completion is the 30th of September 2010 so we'll be ready for the start of school the first week of October.
