Nafisetta is about years old. She was not yet in school at the time of our visit. Her father died in 2005 from an unknown illness, leaving his wife and 3 children. Nafisetta is the youngest of these children. She has 2 older sisters. The middle child, Fatimata is the only one currently in school.
Nafisetta and her family live within the town of Yako. Their home is simple made of mud bricks and wood, but the wood is rotting and the home is in poor condition. There is no electricity. They do have a couple goats.
Mom and the girl work together to cultivate a field of millet to provide for themselves. Mom also sells a local condiment to generate a small amount of income.
Construction of the next 2 classrooms has begun! The deadline for completion is the 30th of September 2010 so we'll be ready for the start of school the first week of October.
