Constant was about 10 years of age at the time of our visit
in March of 2009 – no one seemed sure of his age, but he was in his 3rd or 4th
year of school.Constant is a different
case from our others because he still has both parents; however his father
doesn’t seem to be mentally well. They
had 5 children, but 3 of them have died.Currently, the youngest is 2 years of age, a girl named Denise; and
Constant is the oldest.
They live in a section of the town of Yako known as Sector
2.Their home is a simple mud brick hut
and it is not in good repair. They do
not have the typical courtyard wall to give them privacy and protection – the previous
wall has crumbled. They have no animals,
of course no electricity and their water comes from a nearby pump.Mom and Dad work together to farm a field of
millet in order to provide for the family.
With a sponsor, we can develop relationship with this family
and help the parents provide better care for their children.
Construction of the next 2 classrooms has begun! The deadline for completion is the 30th of September 2010 so we'll be ready for the start of school the first week of October.
