Gregoire was 7 years old at the time of our visit in March
2009. He is the youngest of 6 children. His father died of an unknown illness 3
years ago, leaving Mom to take care of the children. Gregoire and one of his
older brothers, Mady, still live with Mom; but the other 4 siblings live in
another village with their father’s family. Neither Gregoire nor Mady are in
school.It is likely too late for Mady
to enroll, but with sponsorship, we can get Gregoire into school (and will do
everything possible to get Mady enrolled as well.)
This family lives in the village of Nambengya, in a
courtyard with Mom’s brother, wife, and 2 children. Their home is in average
condition. There is no electricity and they get their water from a well beside
the courtyard. Gregoire’s uncle has 1 goat.
Mom cultivates millet with her brother and his wife.When she is done farming, she prepares a
local beer called dolo for a bit of extra income. There are no other family
members who support this family.
Construction of the next 2 classrooms has begun! The deadline for completion is the 30th of September 2010 so we'll be ready for the start of school the first week of October.
