Lassine is about 7 years old as of August 2008.His father died early this year from an
unknown illness.His mother died soon
after – they say she went to the capital city for treatment because of a
swelled foot and died.Lassine is now
being raised by his grandmother who is a widow.She has 2 of her children still living with her and another grandson.
Lassine completed his first year of school, but did not do
well so he will repeat 1st grade this next year.
The family lives within the town of Yako.They are in a typical mud-brick hut, but the
home is in decent condition. Grandma
still farms with the help of her boys.There is no other work or source of income.
Construction of the next 2 classrooms has begun! The deadline for completion is the 30th of September 2010 so we'll be ready for the start of school the first week of October.
