Zachia is 6 years old as of our visit in February
2008. His father died in 2002. Zachia has five siblings. Two are living with an
uncle and Zachia and the other three are with their mother.
Zachia’s mother and two older siblings are able to cultivate
a field of millet for the family. His mother also makes a local treat from
peanuts to sell to earn a little money, however this year they have not been
able to sell much because of a lack of peanuts due to drought.
The family lives in a village not far from the town of Yako. They have no
electricity. They have no animals. They draw water from a nearby well.
Zachia is not in school. Having a sponsor would give him the
opportunity to start school.
Construction of the next 2 classrooms has begun! The deadline for completion is the 30th of September 2010 so we'll be ready for the start of school the first week of October.
