Ernest was about 12 years of age at the time of our visit-
they weren’t sure (which is not unusual). Her father committed suicide last year, leaving his wife and 3
children.Ernest is the oldest, and has
2 younger sisters. One of the sisters is
a 3-month old named Rosine.The other is
being raised by an uncle in another section of town.
Ernest will go into the 6th grade this year. This is an important year as they must pass
with a diploma in order to go any further in school.
Ernest and his mother cultivate a field of millet together
in order to provide from themselves.Mom
also sells peanuts in an attempt to generate a small amount of income.
Their home is within the town of Yako, but they do not have
electricity.They also don’t have any
animals. The water comes from a nearby
well.Fortunately, the home seems to be in
okay condition.
Construction of the next 2 classrooms has begun! The deadline for completion is the 30th of September 2010 so we'll be ready for the start of school the first week of October.
