Kaliguetta was about 10 years of age as of July 2008.Her father died in 2003 during an operation,
leaving his wife and 5 children.Two of
those children are now married and living elsewhere.Those remaining with their mother are
Kaliguetta, her 13-year old sister, Rasmata and her 5 year old brother,
Savan.Kaliguetta is the only one in
school.This year she will be in her 3rd
year.She gets average grades.
This family lives within the town of Yako.They are in their Uncle’s courtyard which is
in good condition; but other than providing the space, the Uncle does not help
the family.He’s the father’s brother,
so I suspect he resents being expected to carry the extra burden.However, typically if there is a medical
emergency, family will help with the expenses, so they do have some security.
Other than that, Kaliguetta is old enough to be expected to
help her mother in the fields during rainy season along with her older
sister.There is no other work or source
of income.
