Daoda was about 9 years old at the time of our visit
in Dec 2008.He is in his 3rd year of
school.His father died just this year
in February from AIDS.There are 4
children but 1 is married and living elsewhere.Daoda and the others are still with their mother.
Daoda and his family live in a small village called
Nongtaba.It is about 8 km from the town
of Yako and impassable during the rainy season.Their home is a small mud brick hut in poor condition.They have no electricity, no animals, and
their water source is a nearby pump.
Mom and the children work together to cultivate a
field of millet to sustain themselves.There is no other work or source of income.Fortunately, the oldest is a 17 year old boy;
so he is able to help care for his family.However, unfortunately, he was in school, but left it 2 years ago
because he didn’t have the means to continue.
