Kientega, Augustin

Augustin was about 9 years old in January 2011.  His mother died about 4 years ago.  His father is supposedly living in another city, but he hasn’t been heard from since Mom’s death.  Augustin also has a 5 or 6-year old sister named Felicite.  Both children are being raised by their grandparents. 

Augustin also has a cousin named Isabel who has lost both her parents; so she   is being raised by this set of grandparents as well.  Obviously this is a huge responsibility for 2 elderly adults.  The grandparents still farm in order to provide for the family.  Grandma also makes the local beer called ‘dolo’ to generate a small income.

Augustin was in 3rd grade this past year.  Isabel is about 15 and going into the 8^th grade.  With a sponsor, we can help with the school fees for both children in a case like this.

The family lives in a village called Taonsgho.  Their home is not in good condition.  The roof is made of wood which is a problem because of termites.  It should be replaced regularly, but has not been.
