Germaine is 9 years old.She is one of 8 children. Her
father died recently from an unknown illness. Her oldest brother, about 17, has left “in search of gold”.The others are still living with their
mother, the oldest a teenage girl and the youngest a 3 year old boy.The oldest girl has a baby – it was unclear
where the father is.
Germaine and her family live in a small village called
Wedkingo.Their home is in acceptable
condition.They live with extended
family in a large courtyard with several homes. They have no electricity; but they do still have several animals.Apparently when Dad was around, he did a nice
job of “investing” what they had in sheep and goats so the family has something
to sell when funds are needed.
Unfortunately Germaine is the only child in school. She is currently in the 2nd grade, but the
closest school is several miles from their home.Burkina Faso Outreach may be starting some
educational programs in this village because we found there are many, many
children who have never been to school. If so, some of Germaine’s siblings will likely benefit.
Construction of the next 2 classrooms has begun! The deadline for completion is the 30th of September 2010 so we'll be ready for the start of school the first week of October.
