Romain is the youngest of 4 children. No one knows where there mother is, so it’s
possible she is no longer living.Apparently, she abandoned them when Romain was small.Their father is still alive and living in the
town of Yako; but does not support the family.Romain and one sister, Odette are being raised by their
grandmother.The other 2 siblings are
being raised by other family members.
Fortunately, Romain lives in Gobila where we started a
preschool a couple years ago and now have a primary school.Romain was in our first preschool group and
this year completed the 1st grade. He passed to 2nd grade, but he is struggling with reading, so
he comes to “summer school” 2 mornings/week for a couple hours.
Romains sister, Odette just completed the 6th
grade.
Grandma is widowed from her husband; so, although elderly,
she must still work in the fields to support herself and the children. One of her own sons lives in a neighboring
courtyard, so he is able to help some but is also providing for his own
family.
Construction of the next 2 classrooms has begun! The deadline for completion is the 30th of September 2010 so we'll be ready for the start of school the first week of October.
