	Jean is about 10 years old as of December 2008. His father died of Malaria when his mother was still pregnant with Jean. There are a total of 5 children, but 2 are now living in the capital city and looking for work. Another is living in the country of Ivory Coast. This leaves Jean and his older brother, Blaise at home with their mother. The family lives within the town of Yako in an average-sized courtyard with an elderly woman and another woman and her 2 children. Their home is a typical mud-brick hut, but it is not in good condition. They have no electricity. They do have a donkey which helps with farming. Their water comes from a nearby pump. Mom and her boys work together to cultivate a crop of millet each year. Blaise is also helping out at a gas station to raise some money to pay for his school fees. Blaise is in high school. Also mom washes clothes to help support the family during the dry season. All are in good health.
