This has been an interesting month. It all started at the beginning of October when I got the call that Mom failed a stress test, she had 90% blockage in main arteries, and would be having quadruple bypass surgery the next morning. Living in Burkina Faso, I'm a minimum of 4 days away from being able to get home, so this was unsettling! I'm thankful, she did fine other than a scary call that she was having stroke-like symptoms; but it wasn't a stroke and the symptoms passed. She is apparently recuperating very well. Then, I got terribly sick two weeks ago, starting with obvious signs of Malaria on a Friday night. I started a treatment on Saturday, but was much worse by Sunday. Some guy named Moussa who I've never met before drove me to the capital city while I got progressively worse in the back seat. Fortunately, SIM missionaries were able to take me in and within 10 minutes of arriving a wonderful French doctor was at the house. Apparently, in addition to the Malaria, I had some kind of neurological issue which was causing extreme pain and more - I won't bore you with the details. All the SIM missionaries were so incredibly kind - I had around the clock care and thanks to them and the doctor's housecalls, was able to avoid being hospitalized. But, here's the kicker. Yesterday, the doctor cleared me to go home today and even to drive myself. But, my employees called me from Yako to tell me my house is infested with swarming bees and not to come home yet! I have never heard of such a thing. I'm so ready to be back because there is so much work to be done. Oh well, we'll see what happens!
